You Would Too
by Skye Robinson

Runestone, volume 11

Oh I would absolutely kill a pig
If I were famished
Ask my farming friends
Between which vertebrae I should aim
My knife, counting knuckles back
From the strong skullbase
Far behind her clear dark eyes
I know she would be brighter
Than my dog
Eyes slits of extended canine behind
Us. I would think if I had raised her
I would recall her life and after
I’d most likely vomit
The first time
And not sleep that night
But I know as I imagine
That we are bloody things
And though perhaps not
Always indulged
We all have murderous hands
Grafted to us by birth
